Marijuana CBD provides different benefits to the organism. Here are the 5 main advantages coming from its consumption
Legal CBD marijuana is a genetically modified variety of cannabis that respects the parameters imposed by the law on narcotics.
Reagarding cannabis, in fact, it is considered to all intents and purposes a legal drug only if the concentration of the psychotic metabolite, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) exceeds 0.2%.
With the European law, it is established that the CBD variety of marijuana, or that with THC content that is within the tolerated parameters (up to a maximum of 0.2%), is totally legal in Italy.
This is a huge step towards the acquittal of a plant with countless benefits from the infamy to which the prohibition started in 1937 with the Marijuana Tax Act condemned it.
CBD cannabis stands out for its psychotic version, as well as for minimal THC rates, for medium-high concentrations of CBD (cannabidiol), a non-psychoactive metabolite, whose applications in the medical field are staggering.
Below we propose the 5 main benefits of CBD weed for the body.
1) Therapeutic benefits of hemp: antidepressant and relaxing effect
In 2010 and 2011 the National Center for Biotechnology Information published two articles concerning the effects of CBD.
In particular it was noted that CBD causes an increase in serotonin and glutamate levels, with effects comparable to those of imipramine. In particular, the 2011 publication highlighted that “a lack of signals in the endocannabinoid system is sufficient to produce a depressive phenotype”.
In 2016, a further publication confirmed the results of the previous researches. The CBD does not cure directly the depression but it fights its symptoms and prevents its possibility through the relaxing and distending effect resulting in the release of serotonin and glutamate.
It should be noted that, while imipramine has serious side effects among the side effects – such as leukopenia (decrease in white blood cells in the blood) and thrombocytopenia (decrease in blood platelets) by weighing on the bone marrow -, the CBD has no collateral effects of any kind.

2) Anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effect of marijuana CBD
The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect of CBD is linked to its action on two endocannabinoids, CB1 and CB2.
Endocannabinoids are receptors that our body produces autonomously, very similar to phytocannabinoids, or to the metabolites produced by cannabis plants.
The endocannabinoid CB1 was found to play a fundamental role in the development of the nervous system and to play a neuroprotective function, determining mainly the following effects of CBD cannabis:
- euphoriant
- antispasmodic
- antioxidant
- hypotensive
- analgesic
CB2, on the other hand, is responsible for the anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory action of cannabinoids. It also positively stimulates both endocannabinoids, from which its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory function, ideal for relieving pain resulting from tears and traumas as well as chronic diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, sinusitis.
Moreover, resorting to legal CBD marijuana, gives the possibility to avoid the numerous contraindications of anti-inflammatory drugs.
Those based on paracetamol, in fact, go to burden the gastrointestinal system and the kidneys.
Those based on cortisone and non-steroidal ones, on the other hand, weigh on the immune and cardiovascular system, making them vulnerable to infections and causing, in the long run, an increased risk of heart attack, stroke or heart failure.
3) Analgesic effect of CBD flowers
As mentioned, CBD positively stimulates the endocannabinoids CB1 and CB2 with a consequent analgesic effect: one of the first and principal therapeutic uses of CBD is, in fact, as an effective painkiller.
In particular, CBD prevents the body from absorbing anandamide, a compound associated with receiving pain.
In the presence of chronic pains, such as migraines, multiple sclerosis or rheumatic pains, CBD flower is an excellent substitute for classic analgesic drugs, whose side effects usually include:
- nausea
- vomit
- diarrhea or constipation
- gastrointestinal bleeding

4) Anti-convulsive effect of CBD weed
The Department of Neurology and the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology in the USA have conducted numerous studies on the effects of CBD on two serious forms of childhood-onset epilepsy: Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and Dravet syndrome.
Research has shown incredible results: out of 8 patients who have taken CBD, 4 have recorded the interruption of convulsions and 3, instead, a reduction in violence and their frequency.
This is a remarkable achievement that led the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to vote unanimously, on June 25, 2018, for the approval of the first CBD-based drug for epilepsy treatment, Epidiolex.
5) Benefits of marijuana CBD: antitumor effect
Studies on the antitumor effects of CBD are at the forefront of cancer research.
The research is still in progress and the publications are beginning to make us understand the enormous potential of the CBD weed:
- the California Pacific Medical Center Research Institute in 2007 published a study according to which CBD has been shown to be able to block the metastasis of breast cancer, preventing the tumor from spreading to the rest of the body;
- a study published in 2008 by the Journal of the National Cancer Institute has also extended Californian discoveries to other cancers, showing that CBD could be successfully used in the prevention of metastatic spread of tumors.
