Are there side effects in the assumption of paracetamol and marijuana together?
One of the questions that most interests CBD cannabis and classic cannabis lovers concerns the behavior to be taken in case other drugs are taken, both for chronic problems and for temporary illnesses.
The problem is of particular importance as the cannabinoids present in marijuana, particularly THC and CBD, often share receptors with other drugs and can cause significant alterations in the metabolism of many medicines.
Today we see how paracetamol and legal marijuana behave together. Let’s see first of all what these substances are.
Tachipirina: a jolly drug
In Italy, the category of drugs that have paracetamol as active ingredient (C8H9NO2) is generally referred to with the name Tachipirina. It is a drug with analgesic and antipyretic action, used against the symptoms of fever, cold, flu and, in smaller doses, even against headaches.
Despite a weak anti-inflammatory action, people continues to make use of it even in the case of minor inflammations, also due to its reduced toxicity.
This drug, in fact, even if it has a weight on the liver, since the metabolite derived from the assumption of the molecule turns out to be toxic for the liver tissue, in doses lower than a gram per day should not have sensitive contraindications.
Said that, it is good not to abuse of it: a dose of paracetamol equal to 10-15 grams per day is lethal as it causes a fulminant hepatitis, with necrosis of liver cells in 3/5 days.
For this reason, it is strongly advised not to take more than 2.5 grams for individuals who make constant use of alcohol.
In the case of paracetamol poisoning, this is also lethal for the kidneys, even if among the pain-relieving and antipyretic drugs is the one which less burdens on the kidneys, which is why it is always preferable to steroid anti-inflammatories, the so-called FANS.
The intake is recommended after eating to alleviate the effects that it may have on the liver and to minimize disorders (burning and pain in the belly).

CBD weed: the solution to a thousand problems
Legal marijuana has low concentrations of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), or the psychoactive metabolite, and high concentrations of CBD (cannabidiol).
It is therefore considered legal in more and more countries, including Italy where following the law n.242 dated December 6th 2012, it is freely purchasable and marketable.
Consuming legal hemp produces a wide range of positive effects on the body given the many beneficial properties of the CBD. It is, in fact, a metabolite that acts on the neurotransmitters CB1 (mostly present in the Central Nervous System) and CB2 (prevalent in the Peripheral Nervous System), presenting important effects.
Here are the following:
- Anti-inflammatories;
- Analgesics;
- Antioxidants;
- Neuroprotective;
- Antidepressants (among other things it is possible to use CBD flowers to counteract the symptoms of psychosis);
- Anticonvulsant.
Furthermore, the CBD is:
- an effective regulator of blood sugar levels, reducing insulin resistance in diabetics,
- an excellent regulator of heart rate and respiratory rhythm, able to restore tranquility to the most nervous and stressed subjects.
Recent studies have also proved its effectiveness in combating the metastatic spread of breast cancer, proposing it as a new and innovative solution to the fight against cancer.
Among the negative effects of CBD buds, however, there is the fact that the cannabinoids included in it (CBD and THC) compete with the active ingredients of many drugs with which they share the receptors with which they bind.
Compared to synthetic molecules, in fact, CBD and THC have an antagonistic action, it is to say they reduce their effectiveness by negatively affecting the bioavailability of their active ingredients. This is why it is always advisable to consult a doctor if you are subject to specific treatments before taking legal weed.
But let’s get even more into the subject: what happens if paracetamol and marijuana or paracetamol and CBD oil are used together?

Marijuana and Tachipirina can be taken together
Unlike alcohol, CBD cannabis does not stress the liver as paracetamol does, which is why the two substances are compatible and can be taken together.
It is always right to be in doubt when one has the desire to consume marijuana and at the same time under drug treatment, but in the case of paracetamol, there are no special contraindications.
It must be said that most of the symptoms on which paracetamol acts are at the same time also fought by the CBD, which is why it is generally recommended to take between the two always and only the CBD.
While not having an immediate antipyretic effect (that are capable of counteracting the symptoms of fever), the anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and analgesic action of CBD is nevertheless able to cure the symptoms of fever, even if with a delay of some tens of minutes compared to the paracetamol.
Legal marijuana is also a much more effective remedy for paracetamol against headaches and does not burden the liver or kidneys, on the contrary, it acts positively on both the immune and circulatory systems.
There are rumors on the web of people who have undergone paracetamol treatment to fight flu symptoms, having also taken marijuana, have experienced excessive sleepiness and fatigue. This is one of the effects of CBD, which also appears to be an effective cure for insomnia.
In general, if you are suffering from flu symptoms, the best thing to fight them is to stay at rest. The CBD, although it does not allow an immediate recovery of its normal physical condition, allows the body to react positively, going not only to cure the flu but also to strengthen the immune defenses.
Paracetamol, on the other hand, gives immediate relief and allows you to continue to perform normal daily activities. But in order to get the best of flu symptoms, it needs to be taken on several occasions, with the possibility of presenting sensitive contraindications for those who are predisposed to liver weakness.
