Discover all the types of marijuana and learn to distinguish them.
The CBD flowers and classic Marijuana is obtained from the dried leaves of the female hemp: in fact the cannabis plant is dioecious, that is, it has two distinct genera, the male and the female.
Very often the males are used to cross and pollinate the female plants and from the seeds we get a new variety of plant different from those male and female that created them. With different we mean with different active ingredients.
The best known active ingredient of Marijuana is the THC but the CBD should not be underestimated either.
The two may be more or less present depending on the variety of the plant: in the classic one the THC is high, in legal weed its percentage is very low (while CBD is present in large quantities).
You must know that in recent years many varieties of cannabis and Marijuana treated in the right way and with the percentages provided by the laws have been legalized in many parts of the world.
Their legalization has been made possible thanks to medical researches that have highlighted many healing and therapeutic qualities for different pathologies.
The most important and known pathologies that are treated or relieved thanks to the intervention of cannabis CBD are the following:
- epilepsy,
- psychiatric disorders such as depression,
- multiple sclerosis,
- anorexia being this plant a strong appetite stimulant,
- glaucoma,
- asthma due to its bronchodilator effects
- Furthermore, in Alzheimer’s disease the progression of the disease slows and in Parkinson’s it alleviates the symptoms.
There are three great varieties of cannabis and therefore also of Marijuana: they differ both in the concentration of active ingredients and in the diversity of the plant.
The three varieties of cannabis are called sativa, indica and ruderalis.

Types of cannabis
SATIVA
Sativa Hemp is mainly cultivated for textile use, for construction use and for paper production.
In this type of hemp, even if not in large quantities, there are drugs and active ingredients. Sativa hemp plants can reach a height of five meters and have leaves up to 10 centimeters long.
INDICA
Indica hemp, also known as Indian hemp, does not differ much from cannabis due to the uses made of it.
However, the plant, the leaves and the percentage of drugs and active ingredients it contains are very different between the two types of hemp.
RUDERALIS
The ruderalis hemp was discovered and studied for the first time in the early 1900s and its plants were found for the first time in central Russia.
Ruderalis cannabis is very low and its leaves are much smaller than Sativa hemp and Indica hemp.
Compared to other types of hemp, this plant can grow in a harsh climate and can also be a pest if it has no other nearby plants.
Its percentage of THC is very low and its use is for the most part to cross the other two types of hemp to obtain a type that contains the main characteristics of the two crossed ones, always leaving the cannabis sativa or the one indicating as predominant.

Differences between all kinds of marijuana
Morphology of the various types of marijuana The first difference that immediately strikes us, if we had the chance to see it, is the plant itself.
Sativa cannabis has a very tall, slightly branched plant, with very narrow and lighter colored leaves, indica cannabis has a much lower plant, is densely branched and has wider leaves.
Sativa marijuana is always cultivated outside also due to the size of the plant itself, while Indica marijuana can also be grown indoors.
Effects of different types of cannabis
The effects of the two types of Marijuana are very different.
Sativa marijuana has a revitalizing effect, awakens creativity and can sometimes have hallucinogenic effects.
Indica marijuana instead has a relaxing and calming effect, produces extreme muscle relaxation with the appearance of trembling and tingling of certain parts of the body. It is recommended for night use.
Geographical origin of the two plants
Another difference that can exist between the two largest groups of Marijuana is the geographical origin.
Sativa Marijuana is referred to as from a European origin, whereas Indica or Indian Marijuana, as the name also says, has an Indian and therefore Oriental origin.
Genetics of marijuana plants
The last important difference between the two types of Marijuana is the genetic one, on which the production of THC and CBD depends.
The cannabis plants that produce more THC are the plants considered sative while the plants that produce higher percentages of CBD are those of indica hemp.
THE GENUS OF CANNABIS PLANTS
As we mentioned earlier, hemp plants can be male or female.
These are practically identical in the first six weeks of life, after which they take their identity and we can recognize and separate them to avoid pollination (and therefore vary its THC values).
Male marijuana plant
The male Marijuana differs from the female for its thicker stems because the plant is tall and the stem must be able to support the weight.
Furthermore the male plant has few leaves compared to the female.
This plant at the junction points between the stems and the main stem form balls. Once matured, the balls will become flowers that will release the pollen to go and pollinate the female plant.
If it does not find a plant to pollinate nearby, it produces seeds.
Usually to ensure a good harvest these balls are removed from the plants. If instead our aim is to reproduce the plant or create crossings we must leave the attached flowers.
This plant is mainly cultivated for the production of weed seeds because the leaves have a very low THC and CBD content. This means that THE cultivation must always be done away from female Marijuana plants.
Female marijuana plant
The female Marijuana plant with respect to the male one is also very different to the sight.
Looking at it seems much more delicate just like a woman; its stems are much thinner, the lower plant and the leaves in much greater numbers than the male plant.
The female Marijuana plant has teardrop-shaped pods full of translucent hair in the branching stems.
Practically we find them at the same point where in the male we find the balls with pollen, but in this case these pods are not harmful to the female plant.
The female plant is the only one that can produce THC and CBD, but only if it is not pollinated.
